Amazing New Romeo Laser Snoring Treatment
The Romeo Laser : A New Solution for a Silent Night
If you or your partner suffers from chronic snoring, you’re not alone—and help is at hand. At Riverbanks Wellness, we are proud to introduce the Romeo Laser, a revolutionary non-surgical snoring treatment that harnesses the power of laser technology to restore peaceful sleep and improve quality of life for both the patient and their bed partner.
The Romeo laser snoring treatment uses Erbium:YAG laser energy to firm and tighten tissues in the soft palate—the area most often responsible for the vibration that causes snoring. With virtually no downtime and no need for anaesthesia, Romeo® is fast becoming a preferred alternative to traditional anti-snoring procedures.
What Causes Snoring?
Snoring typically results from the vibration of soft tissues in the upper airway—particularly the soft palate and uvula—as air passes through a narrowed or floppy airway. This narrowing may occur due to age-related tissue laxity, nasal congestion, or poor muscle tone.
When these tissues vibrate during sleep, they produce the familiar (and often disruptive) sound of snoring. Romeo® addresses this directly by tightening the mucosa and underlying collagen in the soft palate, thereby reducing vibration and improving airflow.
How Does the Romeo Laser Work?
The Romeo® treatment uses fractional Er:YAG laser technology to apply targeted thermal energy to the soft palate in a safe and controlled way. The heat causes microscopic coagulation and tissue shrinkage, which in turn stimulates collagen remodelling and strengthens the tissue over time.
The outcome? A firmer, more stable soft palate that resists vibration—leading to less snoring.
Step-by-Step: What Happens During the Romeo® Treatment
- Consultation and Assessment
Your journey begins with a full consultation at Riverbanks Wellness in Harpenden.
We assess your symptoms, examine the anatomy of your airway, and rule out obstructive sleep apnoea, which may require a different approach. - Preparation
No anaesthesia or special preparation is usually required but we do use a throat numbing spray (just in case you’re sensitive!)
You’ll be comfortably seated, and a single-use, sterile ROMEO® handpiece will be used for your treatment, ensuring maximum hygiene. - Laser Treatment
The procedure lasts 10–15 minutes.
The fractional Er:YAG laser is applied directly to the soft palate and uvula via a specially designed 5mm handpiece.
The treatment is gentle and virtually painless, typically described as a warm, tingling sensation. - Post-Treatment Care
You may experience a mild sore throat irritation or dryness for 24–48 hours.
There’s no downtime, and you can return to work or normal activities immediately.
How Many Romeo® Treatments Are Needed?
Most patients require 4 to 6 treatment sessions, spaced 3–4 weeks apart.
Results typically begin to appear after the 3rd or 4th treatment, with continued improvement as collagen remodelling progresses over the following weeks.
For optimal long-term results, a top-up treatment may be recommended to maintain tissue firmness at intervals depending on your body’s response. These can vary between 3-12 monthly.

What Does the Science Say? Clinical Evidence for Laser Treatments for Snoring
Er:YAG Laser (Romeo® and similar platforms)
Er:YAG (2940 nm) lasers are ideal for soft tissue treatments due to their high water absorption and minimal tissue damage. Romeo® uses this laser type to perform a fractional, thermal treatment on the soft palate.
Several studies support the use of Er:YAG lasers for snoring:
- A 2021 clinical review by Neruntarat et al. noted Snoring Improvement in Over 85% of Patients:
Across the included studies, approximately 85% of patients reported a clinically significant reduction in snoring severity following Er:YAG laser treatment. There was also a low complication rate of 5% confirming its safety. - In another trial, 85% of patients treated with non-ablative Er:YAG laser therapy showed clinical improvement in snoring scores and subjective sleep quality at 3 months post-treatment.
