Do you need a brow lift?

Published on August 10, 2015 by

As soon as I attach the word ‘lift’ to a treatment, most people have visions of the surgeon’s knife! Of course, that is an option, but it’s not the only one by a long way. There are several ways to create a brow lift – and sometimes a combination of treatments is the most effective solution.

We frequently use Botulinum Toxin (Botox®) along with dermal fillers like Restylane and Emervel to get a really natural look.

People worry about the ‘plastic doll’ look that Botox can create – but it’s not a ‘given’, it’s all to do with how the treatment is carried out and, if you’re looking for a plastic doll result, Riverbanks Wellness® is probably not the right place for you – we’ll almost certainly try to persuade you to go for a more natural look!

The combination of dermal fillers with Botox are very effective as they each do different jobs, Botox relaxes the muscles that are pulling your brows down and the dermal fillers go to work encouraging your natural collagen to regenerate and improve the elasticity and tone of your skin.

The result is in the hands of the doctor as the subtleties of the amounts of both Botox and fillers is critical to creating that brow lift that simply makes you look more rested and fresher, rather than frozen-faced.

The second option is Ultherapy.

This treatment was originally introduced at Riverbanks in 2008, but withdrawn as it was quite painful and we didn’t feel it was the best option. Now Ultherapy has undergone a dramatic facelift of its own!

  • The pain factor has gone – and just to be sure I tried this out myself with really positive results.
  • It’s totally safe, using ultrasound technology it’s the same technology that is used for scans of pregnant women and for healing sports injuries.
  • It means no downtime – there’s no bruising, no marks, no sign you’ve had treatment so it can be our little secret!

The effects of the therapy develop more and more over time, so a treatment today won’t show instant results, but, as time goes on, your brow will begin to lift and open your eyes up over the weeks and months following the treatment. Patients report that they’re still seeing improvement several months later.

There is, of course, cosmetic surgery.

However, it’s a big step to take when it entails a general anaesthetic, a hospital inpatient stay and a recovery period while the bruising fades and the stitches come out. It’s hard to hide this from your friends!

If you’d like to be referred to a cosmetic surgeon we could certainly refer you, but we’d advise exploring the non-invasive approach – it’s safer and it costs less!
