Botox: is it the worst thing or the best thing you can do?

Published on December 15, 2014 by

Firstly, let’s get the terminology straight; ‘Botox’ is a trade name and is just one of many different products using ‘botulinum toxin’ to reduce movement in specific muscles.

There are two applications for this treatment – therapeutic and cosmetic.  They are known by different names, Botox being the therapeutic name for Vistabel.  Other Botulinum Toxin products are Dysport (therapeutic) known as Azzalure for cosmetic use, and Xeomin (known as Boucouture cosmetically).

Many people think the Botulinum Toxin Type A is simply for smoothing out wrinkles and frown lines, but it has many other uses and our patients are often surprised to discover that it’s an excellent treatment for people who suffer with excessive sweating, migraines and teeth grinding.

If you’re exploring ‘Botox’ for cosmetic reasons and are worried about getting that permanently surprised or frozen look.  This is usually the result of poorly applied treatment – Riverbanks Wellness patients don’t get this; the aim is to create a natural look so people won’t notice you’ve had treatment, just that you look better.

If you listen to what our Medical Director has to say about the results you can expect from Botox, you’ll realise that a subtle approach get better outcomes and also is better for you.  In the hands of an expert, Botulinum Toxin reduces the movement of the facial muscles that create frown lines on your forehead, around your eyes and between your brows.  It doesn’t leave you looking like a Thunderbird puppet with no facial movement!

Over time the reduced movement allows the lines to smooth out and wrinkles can fade and sometimes disappear completely.

If you’re looking to redefine your jawline Botulinum Toxin can be an excellent way to do that; often referred to as a Nefertiti Lift, from the Egyptian queen and her famous profile.

With many delighted patients from local areas around Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, as well as further afield – both men and women – you can be confident that you’re in a safe and expert pair of hands.
