The truth about dermal fillers

Published on January 5, 2015 by

Any injection of substance into the face can go wrong if the practitioner isn’t highly trained with a real understanding of the physiology of the human facial structure.  This applies to dermal fillers and also to Botulinum Toxin (Botox®) and can result in a frozen look, a mis-shapen or unbalanced outline or that well-publicised ‘trout-pout’.  For some years there have been demands for regulation of these treatments and regulation of usage, particularly where high-pressure sales techniques have been used to persuade people to have this kind of treatment.

It’s difficult for a patient to know the background of all the different dermal fillers and be able to make an informed choice as to which ones are good and which aren’t.  To some extent you need a level of medical knowledge to really understand the implications of different products.

That’s why Riverbanks Wellness:

  • Thoroughly researches the products used – both dermal fillers and other products used for patient treatments.
  • Only chooses products that have comprehensive research results demonstrating their effectiveness and safety for patients
  • Will not persuade a patient to have a dermal filler without a full consultation to explore whether this is the right treatment for them.
  • Always ensures that patients are able to discuss their treatment with a doctor – not just a sales person.

Our Medical Director, Dr Ravi Jain, is a fully qualified doctor registered with the General Medical Council and is a member of a number of medical bodies, including the British Association of Cosmetic Doctors and The Society of Cosmetic Physicians and Surgeons.  In addition he has qualified in a range of facial aesthetic techniques including Restylane and Emervel products – both Hyaluronic Acid dermal fillers.

Dr Jain is always researching new products and techniques, but is adamant that Riverbanks Wellness will never use a product on a patient that has not had comprehensive testing to ensure very high safety levels.  However, because he is actively exploring the new developments Riverbanks often leads the field with the best treatments and was one of the first to offer Emervel when it was released for general use in 2012.

“We are always looking for a natural result.  There is nothing worse than people who have obviously had ‘work done’.  The idea is to create a subtle lift and enhance the patient’s looks so that they look fresher, brighter and younger – but not plastic,” explains Dr Jain.

A dermal filler makes a subtle change in your face, but can make a massive change in self-confidence,  so it makes sense to ensure you’re in the hands of an expert.  Not only is the Riverbanks Wellness medical treatment exceptional, but the patient care is also second-to-none.  If you’re considering a cosmetic filler, why don’t you give our team a call on 01582 762877 and discuss what you’d like to achieve?
