What are lip fillers?
Our lip fillers are non-permanent, dissolvable, hyaluronic acid-based dermal gels. They work by attracting water from surrounding tissues and acting as a kind of sponge, filling out lines and depressions in the skin in the way collagen does. This eradicates smile lines and lip creases and improves the overall shape of your mouth. As doctors bound by medical ethics, our primary concern is the safety and comfort of our patients.

A subtle turning back of the clock
At Riverbanks Clinic in Harpenden, we specialise in natural-looking lip enhancements for patients across St Albans, Luton, and the surrounding areas. Our expert-led lip filler treatments restore lost volume, define lip contours, and deeply hydrate the lips for a soft, youthful appearance. Using only premium hyaluronic acid-based fillers, we focus on subtle, balanced results—never overfilled or artificial. In addition to enhancing lip shape, our treatments also smooth fine lines around the mouth, preventing lipstick from bleeding into creases for a polished, well-defined look.
Safety and patient satisfaction are at the heart of everything we do. Our treatments are performed by experienced medical professionals who prioritise your comfort and well-being, ensuring precise placement for the best aesthetic outcome. Because our fillers are dissolvable and non-permanent, they allow for flexibility as your face naturally changes over time. With results lasting up to 18 months, you can enjoy fuller, hydrated lips that enhance your overall appearance while maintaining a natural look. Whether you’re in Harpenden, St Albans, or Luton, our personalised approach ensures that every treatment is tailored to your unique facial structure and aesthetic goals.
How will I feel?
You’ll leave our clinic looking and feeling refreshed, with lips that appear smoother, more defined, and naturally enhanced. A single treatment instantly softens lip creases and improves shape, with results that can last up to 18 months, depending on your lifestyle and overall health. Immediately after treatment, your lips may feel slightly fuller due to the anaesthetic—similar to the sensation after a dental procedure—but this will settle quickly. Over the next two weeks, your lips will gradually refine into their final shape, leaving you feeling confident and reassured in your natural-looking results.
You’re in good hands
Our hyaluronic acid-based lip fillers fit with Riverbanks’ more natural and holistic approach to aesthetic beauty. They are also in line with the principles of Invisible Aesthetics, a concept pioneered by our founder and director, Dr Ravi Jain, which is all about gradual, subtle enhancements over obvious transformations.
Treatment Questions
-
What is the treatment used for? add_circleOur lip fillers are used to smoothen lines and wrinkles that form around the mouth and are difficult to disguise. We can also try and balance asymmetry and restore lost volume.
-
How long do the results last? add_circleThe effects typically last 6-18 months, depending on your overall health and lifestyle and the lip filler you choose.
-
Is the treatment painful? add_circleApart from a tiny pin prick when the very fine needle enters your skin, you shouldn’t feel any lasting pain. This is thanks to the local anaesthetic pre-mixed into the fillers. In fact, the deeper the filler is placed, the more comfortable it is. Some people notice a dull ache for a few days after treatment, but this tends to happen with deeper placed fillers.
-
When will I see results? add_circleInstantly. But they will get better within a week or two.
-
Are there any risks? add_circleDermal fillers are made up of gels and if these are injected into blood vessels, they can cause blockages. This rarely happens in skilled medical hands, and if it were to, a doctor may well be able to clear the blockage with a variety of medical techniques. This is why we believe that only doctors should provide lip filler injections.
-
Are there any side effects? add_circleThe most common side effects with dermal fillers are minimal bruising, slight tenderness and temporary redness over the injection sites. Rarer side effects include prolonged bruising, delayed swellings and, in rare cases, allergic reactions.
