VBeam Laser
VBEAM is a pulsed dye laser that targets haemoglobin within blood vessels. By selectively heating these vessels, the laser reduces redness, flushing, and visible veins while preserving the surrounding skin.
This treatment is particularly effective for rosacea, thread veins, and general facial redness. Most patients notice improvement after a single session, however meaningful correction requires a course of treatment.
In clinical practice, three sessions typically deliver visible improvement, while six sessions are required to achieve correction and stability.

Patient Testimonials
Target the underlying vascular cause, not just the visible redness
Different blood vessels sit at different depths within the skin and vary in size, which is why a single setting is not always sufficient. During treatment, we often use multiple passes with carefully adjusted parameters to target both superficial and deeper vessels in a controlled way.
Larger, deeper vessels may require higher energy and different pulse durations, while finer, more superficial vessels respond better to gentler settings. By layering the treatment in this way, we can achieve more complete clearance while maintaining safety and minimising unnecessary trauma to the surrounding skin.
You’ll always know what to expect
Treatment begins with a doctor-led consultation, with the fee being redeemable against treatment if carried out within 28 days. During this consultation, we assess the type and severity of vascular involvement and determine whether a targeted, medium, or full face approach is required.
Once a plan is agreed, treatments are performed at intervals of approximately four to six weeks. At the halfway point, usually after the third session, progress is reviewed and settings are adjusted where necessary to optimise results.
Following completion of the course, patients are advised on a maintenance strategy to preserve outcomes and reduce recurrence of redness.

How will I feel?
During the actual procedure there may be slight snapping sensations but VBeam Laser treatment is proven to be safe, with minimal pain or downtime. Depending on the treatment, you may find that the treated area is slightly swollen, sensitive and feels warm. Some patients may also experience light bruising lasting a couple of days but which can be concealed with makeup.

-
How many sessions will I need? add_circleThe number of sessions varies depending on the condition and how established it is.
Angiomas often respond quickly. Many can be treated in 1 to 2 sessions, although larger or deeper lesions may need additional treatment.
Nasal thread veins typically require 1 to 3 sessions. Smaller vessels clear quickly, while more extensive networks may take a little longer.
Rosacea usually requires a course of 6 sessions. This allows for progressive reduction in redness and better long-term stability.
Port wine stains tend to need more treatment as they are deeper and more complex. Most patients require six to eight sessions, and sometimes ongoing maintenance.
Scars with associated redness often improve over 3 to 5 sessions, depending on how vascular the scar is.
Acne vulgaris can improve within 3 to 4 sessions, particularly when targeting inflammation, although it is often combined with other treatments for optimal results.
-
Why not just have one session? add_circleOne session may improve the appearance, but it does not correct the underlying vascular instability. A course is required for meaningful results.
Patients often see visible improvement after their first session. After three sessions, there is typically a meaningful reduction in redness and vascular visibility. After six sessions, most patients achieve a level of correction and stability that is not possible with isolated treatments.
Those who complete a full programme generally require fewer long-term interventions and experience more consistent results.
-
Is the treatment painful? add_circleYou may experience a mild snapping sensation during the procedure, often compared to a light elastic band against the skin. The treatment is generally well tolerated by most patients as the device includes an integrated cooling system, which helps protect the skin and significantly improves comfort throughout the treatment.
After treatment, we recommend keeping the skin cool and well hydrated. Avoid heat exposure such as hot showers, saunas, and intense exercise for the first 24 hours. Use a gentle cleanser, apply a simple moisturiser, and wear a high-factor SPF daily to protect the skin. If any swelling occurs, this can be helped with cool compresses. It is also important to avoid active skincare products such as retinoids or exfoliating acids for a few days until the skin has settled.
-
What is the downtime? add_circleMost patients experience mild redness for one to two days. Some may notice slight swelling for up to 5 days.Downtime is usually minimal. Most patients experience mild redness for one to two days, similar to a light sunburn. Some may notice slight swelling, particularly in areas such as the cheeks or around the eyes, which can last up to five days.
If bruising settings are used, there may be visible purpura that can last around five to seven days before fading. Most patients are able to return to normal daily activities immediately, although we advise avoiding heat, exercise, and alcohol for the first 24 hours to support optimal recovery.
-
Are results permanent? add_circleResults can be long-lasting, but they are not always permanent. The vessels we treat are effectively reduced or removed, however your skin can form new vessels over time, particularly if you are prone to redness or rosacea.
For this reason, most patients benefit from occasional maintenance. Typically, one to two sessions per year is enough to maintain the results and keep the skin stable.
-
Will it bruise? add_circleBruising (purpura) is not always necessary. VBEAM can be delivered in both bruising and non-bruising modes, depending on the treatment goal and your preference.
Non-bruising settings are often chosen for convenience, as they involve minimal downtime, but they usually require more sessions to achieve the same level of clearance. Bruising settings are more aggressive and can produce faster results, particularly for deeper or more resistant vessels.
Even when non-bruising mode is used, a small amount of bruising can occasionally occur, although this is typically mild and short-lived.
-
Is the treatment safe? add_circleYes. When performed in a medical setting with a proper consultation, accurate diagnosis, and carefully selected treatment parameters, VBEAM is a safe and well-established procedure.
Safety comes down to experience and control. At Riverbanks Clinic, treatments are doctor-led, with settings tailored to your skin type, vascular condition, and response at each stage. This reduces risk and ensures the treatment remains both effective and predictable over time.
-
What are the risks? add_circleTemporary redness and mild swelling are common after treatment and usually settle within a few hours to a couple of days. Some patients may experience light bruising, particularly when treating more visible vessels, but this is temporary and resolves on its own.
Serious complications are rare when treatment is carried out correctly. These can include post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation, superficial burns, blistering, scarring, uneven skin tone, or infection. At Riverbanks Clinic, careful skin assessment, appropriate parameter selection, and strict aftercare guidance are used to minimise these risks and support safe, predictable healing.
