Dramatic photos from Joanna thanks to VBeam

Today I want to introduce you to a patient called Joanna who reached out to me last year as she was struggling with her acne and was at a loss. Unfortunately for Joanna it was a catch-22 situation.

Joanna’s acne was triggered by stress. But each time her doctor prescribed her medication which didn’t clear up her inflammation, she got more stressed. Which, of course, made her acne worse. Requiring more medication.

The vicious cycle could have continued forever. But then a friend told Joanna about Sonal’s skin treatments here at Riverbanks, and she decided to make an appointment.

“When you have acne and it’s quite pronounced, you’re willing to explore lots of options,” Joanna, who’s in her 20s, told me recently. “I’d suffered ongoing bouts of acne and no matter what I did, it seemed to reoccur.”

To see what happened next, take a look at these photos. Here’s Joanna before treatment:

There’s no comparison, is there? Her skin is so much calmer and clearer.

And the difference is all down to the VBeam Pulsed Dye Laser, which we use to treat anything red in your skin – like acne, rosacea, thread veins and port wine stains.

This specialist tool used to be used primarily in hospitals, but nowadays top aesthetic clinics use it too – though we’re the only ones in the area to have one. It works by sending a burst of light to the blood vessels which feed your lesions, essentially cutting them off from the blood supply.

Most patients require between 4-6 treatments for the best results. But each one takes just 20 minutes, and we space them out every 4-6 weeks, so it’s easy to fit into a busy lifestyle.

It’s FDA-approved so it’s incredibly safe and compared to most lasers it has very minimal downtime. With each subsequent treatment, the inflammation and the redness reduce – it’s like a knock-out punch for your acne.

“It wasn’t painful,” says Joanna. “It was a strange sensation – like an elastic band being flicked at your face – but as women, we put up with much worse treatments! And the results were worth it. The V-Beam reduced the redness and the papules” – those are the raised bumps on the skin – “and I felt so much more confident. I wasn’t aware of this treatment beforehand, but it was so effective.”

Treating acne is a long-term journey and often requires a combination of treatments. That’s why Sonal also used peels, LED light therapy and microneedling to help Joanna, over several months.

She also encouraged Joanna to see her GP to get blood tests to help identify what might trigger her acne. They prescribed her an antibiotic too. Finally, Sonal taught Joanna how to use medical-grade skincare products to manage the condition better at home.

It’s all working well – it’s been more than two years since Joanna came to see us, and her acne is still under control! But if you’re suffering with acne or rosacea, chances are that you don’t have the patience for a very long course of treatments.

You’re at the end of your tether. You’ve bought the miracle products. (They weren’t.) You’ve been to the GP for antibiotics. (They worked well, but you didn’t like taking them long-term.) You don’t want to wait months to see a difference. You want the fastest, most powerful solution there is – now.

That’s the VBeam.

With our acne protocol, we use it first, to dramatically reduce your acne and give you immediate relief.

Then we develop a plan to clear up any remaining issues, deal with any scarring and keep your acne under control long-term.

Of course, we can’t guarantee to completely clear up your acne, because there are often internal triggers we can’t solve (like Joanna’s stress); but we can use all the best treatments and products available to manage it.
