Which type of exfoliation is right for me?
It’s not just what you do. It’s the way you do it.
You might have learned this already from your significant other, but it’s just as true for skincare.
Celebrities like Courtney Cox and Gwyneth Paltrow swear by exfoliation to keep their skin red-carpet worthy. Sloughing off the top layer of dull, dead skin cells reveals the healthy new ones underneath, removes oil and dirt and leaves your skin softer and younger-looking.
But using the wrong type of exfoliant can leave your skin dried out, inflamed and patchily red.
Not attractive at all.
So what are the best options for a good, healthy exfoliation of your skin? The type that leaves you looking like a million dollars…?
Contrary to what some people think, all exfoliations were not created equal and do not have the same effect, so let’s run through the options.
One possibility is chemical exfoliation, better known as an acid peel. It works by breaking down the proteins of the dead skin cells, as well as the ”glue” that holds the dead skin cells together to reveal the younger, healthier skin underneath. You should only ever get a chemical peel done in a reputable clinic with experienced aestheticians like our Martyna and Sonal and medical supervision, as it’s a very powerful treatment.
The payoff is absolutely incredible skin!
This is a seriously effective treatment, which will make a visible difference to your skin tone and can get rid of practically every blemish on your face – find out more and see some incredible before-and-afters here.
Facial masks with fruit enzymes are a great alternative for home exfoliation. They penetrate deep into the skin to ‘eat’ all your dead skin cells, just like an acid peel, but they are much more gentle and suitable even for sensitive skin.
The second type of exfoliation is physical exfoliation – ie. scrubs.
These are amazing at rubbing away dead skin and boosting circulation to the upper layers of skin cells, and we recommend you use them at home twice a week.
Buy one or create your own with crushed nuts, sugar, sea salt or coffee, but make sure the particles are small so they don’t scratch your skin.
The smaller the particles, the more effective they are, too.
Finally, there’s mechanical exfoliation, which uses vacuum suction with crystals, diamond tip or aqua peel to suck out all of your skin’s impurities at one go.
It’s amazing, but like with acid peels it should only be carried out by experienced professionals. You can’t do this at home!
The treatments we offer are not available on the high street, and if your skin is still suffering from dryness, redness or pigmentations after the summer, we’ll have you looking fresh and glowing in no time…
